Rebellious Jubilee MP Bowen Kagongo Loses His Seat

Marakwet East Member of Parliament David Kagongo Bowen has lost his seat following a petition lodged by former Cabinet minister Linah Jebii Kilimo.

Nullifying Bowen's victory at the High Court in Eldoret on Tuesday, Justice George Kimondo ruled that his election was marred by massive irregularities and that the polls were neither accurate nor verifiable.

The Judge further noted that there were grave anomalies that put to question the accuracy of the numbers, verifiability, credibility and integrity of the results.

“Owing to the serious irregularities and anomalies that cast a long shadow on the results, it’s not feasible to declare Linah Jebi Kilimo as the winner."

The court further found out that two ungazetted polling stations were used to tally the final results of the race.

Justice Kimondo, therefore, declared that Bowen was not validly elected and ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a fresh election in Marakwet East.

Bowen was last month removed as vice chair of Environment and Natural Resources Committee for ostensibly defying the wishes of the ruling party.

He was among four defiant Jubilee MPs who contested against President Kenyatta's preferred candidates for various Parliament leadership positions.

Following his removal, Kagongo had threatened to ditch Jubilee party for what he termed as dictatorship from the Executive.
