MP among 46 Drivers Arrested in Nairobi over Drunk-Driving

Kangundo Member of Parliament Fabian Kyule is among 46 drivers who were arrested in Nairobi on Saturday over drunk-driving.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet says the MP rammed into a wall while attempting to escape after police officers flagged down his vehicle. Boinnet also says Kyule was aggressive and tried to beat up police officers during the arrest.
"He should thank the police for arresting him as he was totally sloshed. We shudder to imagine what could have happened on his way," Boinett says in a statement.
"Let him enjoy our free full board facilities."
The MP is being detained at the Parklands police station in Nairobi and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
"The rule remains, do not drink and drive as you imperil your own life, as well as other innocent road users," Boinett says.
On Monday, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced seven motorists had their driving licenses suspended for up to two years for driving under the influence of alcohol.
“We hope that suspending their licenses will send a warning and strong message to those who are tempted to drink and drive. Our teams are currently supporting the traffic police in enhancing road safety during this festive season,” says NTSA in a statement.
