Kenyan Man Misses Dowry Payment Function After Getting Stuck in over 15-Hour Traffic Gridlock [VIDEO]

A Kenyan man on Saturday missed a function meant for his dowry payment after he got stuck in traffic along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway for several hours.

Anthony Okumu was among the hundreds of travelers who were left stranded at Gilgil area following a massive traffic gridlock that lasted nearly 20 hours.

Okumu was traveling from Nairobi to Ugenya, Siaya County to pay a dowry for his would-be wife but missed the function after spending Friday night and the better part of Saturday morning stuck in traffic. 

He was expecting to arrive in Ugenya at 6 am on Saturday after leaving Nairobi at 9 pm on Friday but the bus he was traveling in got stuck in traffic at Gilgil weighbridge.

"I left Nairobi on time but look, I cannot attend a family function that made me travel because of traffic snarl-up," said Okumu.

Gilgil police commander Emmanuel Opuru said the snarl-up was caused by construction of a section of the road by Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) at Gilgil weighbridge.

These women should be free, why are people still doing this? its 2019 y'all. tell the girl you love her and she can pick you or the parent (S). I know someone that married a girl here in U.S, helped her gain citizenship and her old guy back home keeps sending people to tell him he's yet to pay up, he sends anyone who is coming over with the message that he's yet to "eat".

This is not news??From nairobi to ugenya is very far.Kwanza unaplan kufika huko 2 days b4 yr functions especially if ur coming from nairobi to ugenya which is far.N also u have yr wife so hata kama ulichelewa not big deal.

These cultures shenanigans,women shouldn't be treated as commodities anymore.Damn.lesson learnt though,a helicopter or a plane will do better for future dowry payers.And by the way,Mwakilishi,Get a hobby,these are not goddamn news for cyber gridlock!!

There is nothing wrong with dowry payment it is part of the African culture .It is those who cannot afford or do not want to pay that have a problem.Mkosa mila ni mtumwa
