Company that Sold Weston Hotel Land to DP William Ruto Speaks Out

A company that sold Weston Hotel’s land to Deputy President William Ruto has denied claims that the parcel was illegally acquired.

Priority Limited, a travel agency, says the title deed for the property was acquired legally and that Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has no claim to the land.

In court papers, Priority Limited states that the title deed for the parcel was obtained in good faith, is legitimate and cannot be faulted through the petition or any other case. It further points out that being the registered owner of the property serves as conclusive evidence of ownership.

The company also says that KCAA has no “worthy evidence” to claim ownership of the land where the five-star hotel stands.

Priority Limited made the submissions in a case where KCAA has filed a lawsuit seeking to reclaim the property.

After an investigation, the National Lands Commission (NLC) established that the land in question was irregularly acquired from its original owner-KCAA-and ordered Weston Hotel to compensate the aviation agency for the land at current market price.

KCAA has rejected the proposal, arguing that NLC does not have the authority to preside over the complaint on compensation for the land, and wants the hotel demolished and the land handed back to it.

“NLC had no powers to review grants and dispositions by January 25, 2019, which is more than one year eight months late. This suggests deliberate delay by the NLC to frustrate the KCAA,” KCAA says in court documents.

Show us a property profile, a chain of title going back an extended period of time. That is the way we we can clearly see how the ownership has changed hands. Who bought from whom, when and how much was paid down to Ruto. Is this not a matter of public records?
