Uproar as Video of Armed Men Brutally Hacking Elephant to Death Emerges Online

A video showing a group of people brutally attacking a helpless elephant to death has sparked outrage from Kenyans on social media.

In the video shared online on Tuesday, a group of men armed with machetes and axes is seen mercilessly attacking the lone jumbo as villagers watch from a distance.

At one point, a man is seen repeatedly slashing the animal on its hind limbs and cutting off chunks of its flesh while it is still alive.

The incident happened in Meru County after the stray elephant found itself in one of the villages, according to reports on social media.

Online users reacted angrily to the harrowing video and called on relevant authorities to take action against those involved. 

Judy Toemmler said: “God where are police and KWS, this people deserve to be prosecuted. Poor elephant died in so much pain that it didn't deserve at all.”

Rebecca Kondi Mwololo wrote: “Ohhh my goodness! We are supposed to be HUMAN!thinking beings!”

Muthoni Macharia said: “Oh no!😢 this is so sad..”

Chuck Bolt Usain Wandia noted: “If I was the Elephant I could ask God to give just a little power like Samson and I will destroy the entire village.”

Mandy Naz said: “This majestic animal died a painful and cruel death. These people should be prosecuted. Shame when humility goes out of the window and Man turns to a monster. This is where we are in the world.”

Racheal Njambi noted: “I'm so angry right now. What has become of human being they no mercy at everything they come across. ..action should be taken.”
Mevis Ke stated: “The most painful thing I've watched today,but why?”

Kiarie Wa Esther said: “This is heartless. Communities should be seriously sensitized on the need to conserve wildlife.”

Herina Achieng quipped: “Why why why and we wonder why we are suffering as a Nation God can't bless those who torture his creation.”

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is set to release an official communication regarding the incident.
