MP Babu Owino Disowns Viral Photo of Him Preparing to Snort Cocaine

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has disowned a viral photo showing him preparing cocaine for snorting. 

The picture circulated on social media shows Owino, who is being held by a woman from behind, preparing to sniff the drug substance. Seated beside him is the newly elected Kibra MP Bernard Imran Okoth, who is also in the company of a lady.

MP Owino has come out to deny the picture, accusing his detractors of editing the original photo in order to destroy his reputation. 

“Yesterday, I was deeply honored to be recognized as the Member of Parliament of the Year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kenyans for overwhelmingly voting for me,” he said in a lengthy Facebook post.

“However, I am also aware that there are those who do not share in the happiness of this award. Upon receiving this prestigious award, I have also been on the receiving end of abuse and malice in equal measure. About two weeks ago, I was poisoned at a local Nairobi restaurant occasioning my admission at the Aga Khan Hospital for an entire week.”

“Soon thereafter, I was trailed by four hoodlums in an unmarked saloon vehicle who made a further attempt on my life that I reported to the Police Station in Parliament OB21/17/11/2019 at 17:28hrs. I then saw them mock and abuse me further but I kept quiet.”

“Now, I am made aware of a campaign to malign my good public image circulating on social media with a photoshopped image of Hon.Imran okoth and myself. I wish to make it clear that I will not be distracted from serving my people by these cheap antics. When I chose this path of service, I was prepared for everything that comes with it. I expect further attacks against me in the coming days as they seek to dim my light. I shall soldier on without fail ignoring the barking dogs along the way!,” wrote Owino.

Babu went ahead to share the original photo which shows him scrolling through his phone as opposed to preparing cocaine for snorting.
