Police Open Probe After Anti-Waiguru Flyers as Circulated in Kirinyaga at Night
An unknown people on Saturday night distributed flyers around Kirinyaga County calling for protests against embattled Governor Anne Waiguru.
The leaflets written in Kikuyu language were dropped in different areas including Ngurubani, Makutano, Kagio, Kerugoya, and Kagumo.
They urged residents to take to the streets on Monday to demonstrate against Waiguru, who was recently impeached by the Kirinyaga County Assembly on grounds of gross misconduct, abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution.
“Some People were shocked to find them on their doorstep, this method of using leaflets is outdated,” one resident said.
Kirinyaga County Commissioner Jim Njoka confirmed police have opened investigations into the matter.
Waiguru’s fate lies with an 11-member Senate Committee formed last week to hear and investigate her impeachment. The team has until June 25th to table a report of its findings in the house.
23 out of 33 Kirinyaga MCAs on June 9th voted in support of the motion to remove Governor Waiguru, four abstained while six were absent. The motion was filed by Mutira Ward MCA David Kinyua Wangui.
