Foreign Affairs PS Amb. Macharia Kamau has spoken about his battle with the Covid-19 disease.
Macharia said he tested positive for the infection on July 24th and opted to self-isolate at home since was only showing mild symptoms.
“I like to jog, I like to keep fit and I like to go to 50 press-ups but suddenly at 20 I’d feel I’m running out of energy. Your usual four to five-kilometer run, after two kilometers you feel you are wiped out,” he told Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange in an interview on Wednesday night.
But in the second week, he says the symptoms got worse and recounted feeling dizzy on one morning after a sudden rise in body temperature before passing out for a few seconds.
“Some days I felt I was okay while other days it got worse and when you hear people say that the virus gets worse on the second week after contraction, believe me, it’s true,” he said.
“On that Monday morning, I got up and went to breakfast. In the middle of breakfast, I had a sharp temperature spike and I began feeling dizzy and delirious. According to the person who was helping me, I actually passed out for a few seconds,” he added.
Macharia, who says he has been constantly taking a concoction of ginger, lemon, and garlic, urged Covid-19 patients to remain active. He added that Panadol helped when he was in pain.
“You must get up, don’t stay in bed, don’t play dead because Covid-19 will take you over. Be active, it’s like having bad flu,” he said.
Macharia said he tested negative on Tuesday this week and will take a second test to confirm he is Covid-19-free.
