The family of a man killed by a VIP motorcade heading to President Kenyatta’s meeting at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri over the weekend is demanding justice.
45-year-old Chris Nderitu was run over by vehicles ferrying unknown government officials to the meeting at Karundas area on Saturday.
The deceased was heading to a local shopping center in the company of a relative when the speeding convoy passed them, just a few paces from their home.
When his relative questioned their speed, Chris said they were on the right side of the road and believed the drivers would stay in their lane given that he was in a wheelchair.
He was allegedly hit by three vehicles and died while being rushed to Nyeri Provincial General Hospital. Reports indicate the accident occurred after one of the vehicles tried to overtake the others in the convoy.
“Gari tatu ilimgonga…magari kubwa…hiyo ma V8…lakini hakukufia hapo, alikufa akipelekwa General,” said Jecinta Wanjira, an aunt to the deceased.
The family wants the government to take responsibility for the death of their kin, who has left behind a wife and children.
“Ako na kijana anasoma secondary…serikali iangalie hiyo maneno vizuri, kwa sababu hakuna mtu mwingine atakuja kuangalia hii familia,” added Wanjira.
It remains unclear which government official (s) was being driven to the meeting when the accident happened.
Kenyatta met over 5,000 Mt. Kenya leaders including Governors, Senators, and MPs at Sagana State Lodge to discuss various issues, chief among them the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Pretty much HIT & RUN! The convoy must be prosecuted, DCI not the traffic officers should do investigations!
When people drive the gas guzzlers V8's they must think the common person does not matter. They need to pay up now!
