Kenyan Herbalist Charged with Murder After Her South Sudanese Client Dies Mysteriously

An Eldoret-based herbalist was on Tuesday charged with murder following the mysterious death of a 41-year-old South Sudan national, who was her client.
The court heard that Maketh Kuany Chol died on October 23rd, 2021, at his home in Kapsoya Estate in Eldoret, hours after ingesting a potion administered by his family’s herbalist Ann Mosop, 52.
The victim’s cousin Paul Deng Garang told Justice Erick Ogola that Chol was in healthy condition before drinking the concoction and was rushed to Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The health of my cousin before consuming the said herbs was good and he did not have any health complications which I can link to his death. The cause of his death was the herbal medicine he was given by the accused,” Garang told the court.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Ali said the victim’s wife also consumed the concoction administered by Mosop on the same day and was admitted to hospital for a week.
Mosop pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a Sh40,000 bond. The case will be heard on November 24th this year.
