Kalonzo, Wamalwa Threatens Street Protests Over Stalled Electoral Justice Reforms

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has threatened the resumption of protests if the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee's (Nadco) report on electoral justice recommendations is halted.

This statement comes in the wake of Lady Justice Dora Chepkwony's ruling which prevents Parliament from forming a panel to assess the 2022 presidential election, a key recommendation made by the Nadco team after the ceasefire agreement between President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga. Musyoka, who co-chaired the committee alongside National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, vehemently criticizes Friday's ruling as a deliberate attempt to undermine the agreement reached at Bomas.

The report, jointly prepared by representatives from the Azimio and Kenya Kwanza coalitions last year, was a product of collaborative efforts. Expressing frustration with the perceived lack of goodwill and trust from the Kenya Kwanza coalition, Musyoka accuses them of engaging in dishonest politics. He has called for an end to state-sponsored legal actions, declaring that he and Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa are prepared to resume street demonstrations to advocate for electoral justice. Wamalwa voiced his dissatisfaction with the government's actions before, during, and after the Nadco talks.

He believes that the government is attempting to influence the court's decision by delaying action on the report, stating that the people of Kenya wanted the servers to be opened for an audit, which is precisely what the government is trying to prevent. Wamalwa warned that if necessary, they are prepared to take to the streets in protest. Other Wiper MPs have joined their leaders in urging Kenyans to support Musyoka after Odinga announced his candidacy for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. The party focuses on strengthening its presence in Kwale County by opening a party office in Kinondo, Msambweni Sub-County, and planning more meetings in Ukunda and Likoni towns.

The execution of the National Dialogue Committee's findings is currently on hold until the resolution of a legal matter involving activist Michael Muchemi. Muchemi claims that the Nadco report violated the Kenyan constitution as it suggested an election review that is not in accordance with the law.
