Raila Odinga Jr. has publicly diverged from his father's political stance, following a joint press conference that saw former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga aligning with President William Ruto.
The press conference centred around President Ruto's assent to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Amendment Act of 2024. In a move that caught many off guard, Raila Odinga expressed support for Ruto's proposal to establish a multi-sectoral forum. This forum aims to address concerns raised by anti-government protesters who have been demonstrating against the Finance Bill 2024. However, Raila Odinga Jr. has taken to social media to voice his dissent. In a statement, he emphasizes the importance of recognizing individual perspectives even among those who share a name.
"Everybody is an individual, please! Even people with the same exact names," he says.
This message appears to underscore his disagreement with his father's newfound alignment with President Ruto. Odinga's endorsement of the multi-sectoral forum has sparked intense debate. Critics argue that the proposed dialogue is merely a political manoeuvre benefiting both Ruto and Odinga. Social media user Cornelius Ronoh expresses scepticism about the process, suggesting that it serves the interests of politicians rather than addressing the needs of the general public. This sentiment resonates with the younger generations who are calling for more substantial change.
Some observers point to Raila's history of engaging in talks without achieving lasting solutions, fueling doubts about the effectiveness of this latest initiative. They argue that Kenya's pressing issues demand more decisive action rather than another round of discussions. Nevertheless, the proposed forum has garnered support from some leaders who see it as a potential avenue for progress. Moments after the public announcement, Kenyans online questioned Mr Odinga's role in the talks, distancing themselves from being represented by political figures.
Odinga's 2022 running mate Martha Karua has described the move as a trap, suggesting it would hinder meaningful discussions to address the demands of the Gen Z population. Other Kenyans have joined the ridicule, insisting that Odinga's past dialogues with the government have always failed and that he would not be permitted to represent the youth in any capacity. Moreover, Odinga's personal information, including his mobile phone number has also been leaked on social platforms, a common tactic used against those perceived to be acting against Gen Z's interests.

Comrades Gen Zs,
I'm so proud of you.
Gen-Z should demand amendments or overhaul to the 2010 poop katiba to downsize the government. This will give way for leaner GK which can be easier to finance, control and apprehend looters.First to scrapped must be 1/3&2/3 gender rule,senate,750 ministries etc.But before anything else they must force refund of tax payers funds from looters(from Wanjigi’s 15% illegal brokerage to Uhuru’s shs7.3t to Raila/Kibaki swallowing shs24b maize with shs8 b TRITON petrol and poisonous maize&methernol to MPs increased pay to expired wauaji Kamau,Torroitich,Ntimama,Biwort,Kones etc.All must be punished but money first.
Wewe mzee jiuzulu. This generation Z movement is working well without a visible leader it is sad that some of them were killed but they are effecting change . Your father and now you were in the opposition and did nothing apart from introduce multipartyism. We trusted your generation to develop the country but what you did was pilfer all the resources and introduce tribalism.Unemployment and sheer hoplessness is now the norm among the youth when they should be looking forward to bright futures. Please stay in your lane. There truly is a new sheriff in town.Na anachapa kazi
