Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that there should be no dialogue.
His comments come just a day after President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga announced a six-day national dialogue under the National Multi-Sectoral Forum, set to begin on July 15. This forum aims to foster national dialogue and seek lasting solutions to Kenya's pressing issues. However, Musyoka's stance challenges the need for such dialogue and brings attention to the demands of the Gen Z generation. Musyoka's statement emerges in the context of recent anti-Finance Bill protests led by Gen Z activists.
These young Kenyans have expressed their frustration with the political establishment, describing themselves as tribe-less, party-less, and leader-less. Their voices reflect a desire for immediate action rather than prolonged discussions. Aligning with these sentiments, Musyoka emphasizes that the administration must promptly address critical issues and understand public sentiment. The Wiper Party leader's position raises questions about the effectiveness of dialogue in addressing Kenya's challenges. He argues that for certain critical projects, dialogue is unnecessary.
For instance, he points out that assessing public debt falls within the responsibilities of the Auditor General's Office, making additional dialogue redundant. Similarly, Musyoka suggests that issues such as posting medical interns or tackling corruption require decisive action rather than extended discussions. The demands of Gen Z and Kenyan citizens extend beyond dialogue. Echoing their call, Musyoka advocates for the dissolution of Parliament and a subsequent election. Additionally, there are calls for President William Ruto's resignation.
The Wiper Democratic Movement has committed to engaging with youth across various platforms. Musyoka encourages young party members to shape conversations on social media and national platforms, aiming to amplify youth voices and drive meaningful change. As Kenya prepares for the upcoming six-day dialogue forum, both President Ruto and Raila Odinga have emphasized its importance. Ruto believes it will propose a way forward for the country, while Odinga sees it as an opportunity for Kenyans to be heard.
