The Kenyan National Assembly has refuted a widely circulated social media post asserting that six prominent politicians are under consideration for cabinet positions.
The fraudulent post, which named individuals such as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, was today identified as misinformation by parliamentary officials. Samuel Njoroge, the Clerk of the National Assembly, confirms that a letter purporting to be from his office requesting the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to vet these alleged nominees is a complete fabrication.
The letter falsely cites the EACC's mandate to uphold leadership and integrity standards, requesting a comprehensive vetting report on the mentioned individuals. He advises the public to rely solely on communications released through the National Assembly’s official website and verify social media accounts.
"No such nominations have been made, and this document did not originate from any authorized office within the National Assembly," Njoroge states, emphasizing the importance of verifying information through official channels.
The prompt response by the National Assembly highlights the critical role of official sources in ensuring the dissemination of accurate information and maintaining public trust. The Assembly urges the public to exercise caution and critically assess the authenticity of information before sharing it to prevent the spread of misleading content.
