University Student Commits Suicide For lack of Fees

Somber mood engulfed Shauri Moyo area in Nairobi after a university student committed suicide for being sent home to collect tuition fees.

22-year-old Fredrick, a second-year student at Nairobi-based Multimedia University, was found hanging at the rooftop of his house.

Buruburu Director of Criminal Investigations boss Jeremiah Ikiao revealed that detectives had established that Kinyanjui was sent home two weeks ago for lack of school fees by the university.

According to Ikiao, Kinyanjui's mother had gone to work when the young man hanged himself with a rope. Ikiao said that police were investigating the incident, although preliminary investigations indicated that he committed suicide after staying home for two weeks for lack of fees.

"He had no school fees to enable him go back to college and there are people claiming this was the reason he killed himself," said Ikiao.

But Ikiao said they are trying to establish if there was any other reason for the death.

So sad. Sometimes life is hard but you do not commit suicide when nothing is working out. There are many people who dropped out of school because of lack of school fees but ended up making it other areas
