President Uhuru Appoints Fred Matiang'i to Replace Late Nkaissery as Interior Cabinet Secretary

Following the sudden death of Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’ i as the Acting Interior CS.

Addressing the press at the Statehouse in Nairobi on Saturday morning, the Head of State described the late Nkaissery as one of the best leaders in his administration.

Nkaissery passed away on Saturday morning after being admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi for a medical check-up.

"There shall be no vacuum in securing our country. I have appointed Education CS Fred Matiangi as the Acting CS for security to ensure there is no vacuum," Uhuru said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta further cancelled Jubilee’s campaign tour to Turkana County that was to be held today to mourn his Cabinet member.

"We were discussing issues as late as 9:30 pm last night on peace and security of this country among Kenya's preparedness for Junior Athletics which commences in a few days," Uhuru said in a live broadcast to the nation.

"I send my condolences to his wife and children, his friends and the Maa community. I call on Kenyans to uphold peace in this difficult time. More details will be given on this untimely death," the President added.

Uhuru urged Kenyans to remain calm even as the government awaits post-mortem results on the late Cabinet Secretary death. "His death comes at a critical time as we approach the general election. We assure all Kenyans that the nation is secured and our security forces are doing all they can to ensure our security," President Uhuru said.

His body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home.

R.I.P Nkaissery. Matiang'i as the successor will sure get the job done. Just as he has been cleaning up the education system in Kenya with KCSE and keeping the school administration on check I trust he will do the same with security in Kenya.
