NASA Bashes Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over Curfew in 'NASA Strongholds'

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders have opposed the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on three counties of Lamu, Garissa and Tana River by the newly appointed acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The Cabinet Secretary announced the curfew hours after his appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta following a series of attacks by suspected Al Shabaab militants, with the latest being on Friday at Jima village, Lamu, where nine people were beheaded.

NASA co-principals Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula, and Siaya Senator James Orengo argued that imposing a curfew in the three counties wan not a solution to the insecurity situation.

Speaking in Kilifi County during a campaign rally on Sunday, presidential candidate Raila Odinga questioned the decision to impose the curfew, saying that it will negatively impact on voter turnout in the next month’s poll.

“We wonder why Matiang’i rushed to the decision instead of mourning Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery,” Wetang’ula said. “The only solution to the Al-Shabaab attacks and insecurity at large is to withdraw KDF from Somalia so they can fight the enemy from within not outside,” Wetang’ula added.

The leaders further said that the Jubilee administration was using the insecurity situation to make sure that NASA strongholds did not turn out to vote during the August 8 polls like they did in several coastal region parts in the 2013 general elections.

“In 2013 you did not vote because police were used to create fear and engineered insecurity.” Kalonzo Musyoka said. "This time round, we are warning the police to be neutral. We know there is a plan by Jubilee to introduce insecurity so that you don’t vote again,” he claimed.

Must Rao play politics in everything that happens in Kenya. This guy has no interest in the safety of the people of that region. Only the votes he can collect. I am not even sure its his stronghold. Be safe Lamu, Garissa and Tana.

The reason I believe the turnout in Nasa Strongholds is going to be low is because.Even Nasa supporters know that the direction that their Leaders are trying to lead Kenyans is the wrong direction. They are trying to lead Kenyans towards more Poverty and More Chaos.Nobody is going to vote for people who want to take the country in the wrong direction.

This RAO has been trying to destabilize and cause chaos in the Kenya since time in Memorial. It is for this reason that I believe, that even some NASA supporters are going to eventually vote for UHURUTO. A vote for Peace in Kenya is a vote for UHURUTO.

Hypocrite Raila thinks government should not deploy security forces to protect citizens but it should send him 50-strong army of officers to protect HIM. What more does anyone need to know this man in and evil charlatan. He is ok with people getting beheaded in "his strong-hold" as long as it is not his own head. May be he would not mind a curfew if his own head was at risk of being separated from his body...

Very well said @Ben! You have really hit the nail at head!! I hope RAO will read and take at heart this eloquent message; or @Guest will brief him if he is really as close to "Baba" as he naively purports to be with his dumb and ignorant comments on this forum.

What a cheap shot from Watengula by saying that Matiang'i should be mourning the passing of CS J. Nkasseiry ,instead of making decisions. Well Iam sure Matiang'i is mourning while doing his duty.It is called multitasking ...You can still mourn at the same time plan for country's security.Security task has not breaks.Have to be alert at all times.

"We wonder why Matiang’i rushed to the decision instead of mourning Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery,” Wetang’ula said. Does NASA think that Al-shabaab is mourning the fallen CS?. Nasa should stop complaining about everything the government does, I see a lot ignorance on most of their complaint's, a little common sense goes a long way, however common sense is not as common as most people think.
