US to Support Kenya as it Prepares for Fresh Elections

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec says that US is committed to support Kenya as it prepares for a fresh elections following Supreme Court verdict the nullified President Uhuru's re-election.

Godec termed the ruling made by the Supreme Court judges historical and an example to Africa and the world. He expressed trust with the ability of Kenyans to express their democratic right and urged the electoral commission to prepare well and deliver a free, fair and peaceful process.

Godec assured that, as partners of the country their commitment to build Kenya is still intact.

"Kenya's electoral institutions now must begin preparing for a new free, fair, credible, and peaceful presidential poll," Godec said. "We promise to continue to support Kenya's institutions in the next presidential election," he added.

"As friends, we want to deepen our partnership with Kenya as it moves forward in building this great country," the envoys said.

"At this historic time, we stand with all Kenyans as they support and reaffirm their democracy, which is an example for Africa and the world."

Godec spoke while 22 foreign envoys issued a joint statement welcoming the ruling by the Supreme Court.
