Joho to Defy President Uhuru's Directive on Traders

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has dismissed a directive issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday.

Speaking during a campaign rally in Mombasa on Monday, President Uhuru directed traders at the Kongowea Market not to pay taxes to the county government, since the market was refurbished by the national government.

“This market was built by funds from the national government. It was built for the traders and not for an individual. We will investigate and see if it’s not being used well,” said the President.

“Do not pay until you get services. I am asking police officers here not to be used to harass and arrest the traders who will not pay the taxes,” he added and directed that individuals found harassing traders at the market be arrested.

Speaking to Journalists on Monday Governor Joho's Information Officer, Issac Angole said the county government of Mombasa will continue to collect levies at the market, adding that the head of state did not consult the county while giving the orders.

“The market cannot operate without revenue. Traders will continue paying rent to sustain operations in the market."

"The market was renovated by the national government before being handed over to the county government last year," Angole stated.

Angole explained that the World Bank gave the National Government the cash used to refurbish the market, after which the market was handed back to the county government.

"The National Government handed the market to the county Government to run and oversee operations, how will the county government manage the markets without money generated from it,” he added.

Anyone selling Kenya for a few cents to foreign masters is a traitor, Raiya are you reading this? Those of us with businesses in Kenya are feeling it. Issuance of permits even by county governments has been halted citing uncertainty and leaving lots of plans and employees in limbo. I have vowed that if Raila ever becomes president, I will sell my businesses and assets in Kenya.

Go tell Kyuks and Kambas in Kibera who have never recovered their assets since 2007. Go tell that nonsense to landlords who were facing eviction by ODM goons in parts of Nairobi in 2007. Luos rarely invest in Nairobiand apparently Kisumu as well and that why they are comfortable destroying property. I have d yet to meet a luo in the diaspora who invests in Kenya and I have e been here a long time. They have nothing to lose

Hahahaha they need to feel the pulse of Kenyans and I doubt they have been reading Mwakilishi lately. They are behaving like idiotic, childish, narcissistic criminals without morals or values. They are downright dumb, short sighted and thuggish who should be in jail right around this minute. Oh but can't because there is a freaking Constitution that caters for demons with terroristic tendencies. They are sucking the blood of Kenyans who are working hard so they can be paid their millions in pensions and businesses they have. They are biting the hand of the people (tax payers) who feed them. Ungrateful bastards who seem unaware that just because one community is calm its afraid. Oh no, its weighing whether the fight is WORTH IT or not.

You are right Mugi, as we speak, Raila and company have brought Kenya to its knees. The tourist industry has lost billions of money as we speak. Real estate down by billions.GDP has slowed down. Shilling only holding up because of Central Bank intervention. Kenya risks being downgraded by global rating agency. Private sector on its knees for the fifth month in a row.How much more can Kenyans take?

Guest1, what do you know that we don't? A mole perhaps? I will write what I believe in. If they read this forum, then "they" should be embarrassed for your one sided loyalty even when the truth smacks you right in your face!

Wow! Wow! All over sudden Guest1 want to see censorship in what we write not to offend some readers in Kenya. That is the joke of the day. No one has been as vicious as Guest 1. Suddenly someone had a vision. Cry me a river.
