NASA MP Collapses after Inhaling Teargas during anti-IEBC Demo in Nairobi

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi says that he could have died had he not been rescued from his vehicle after anti-riot police fired teargas canister in his car during anti-Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission demonstrations in Nairobi on Friday.

Caleb said that police repulsed them using excessive force as they attempted to make their way into the Central Business District.

“They threw a teargas canister toward my car, which broke the rear window. They, thereafter, threw another teargas canister into the car through the hole created by the other. Besides me, there were two other people inside the car – my driver and my bodyguard. I collapsed after inhalation of the teargas, falling off the car,".

“If an oncoming car was speeding, it could have run over me since I fell right in the middle of the road.”

“Journalists and a water vendor performed first aid on me, which helped me regain consciousness,” he said.

He says that at that point, robbers took advantage and snatched some of his personal items.

“My driver had already driven off, since unknown people had begun robbing me of my belongings. It is the (sic) Capital FM crew, which drove me away from the scene.

“I have not visited the hospital yet, given I feel better now. Actually, I am at the airport heading to Kitale.”

“I have also not yet spoken to Nairobi police boss over the incident.”

The incident happened along Kenyatta Avenue as Nasa MPs led their supporters in defying government ban on protests within the City Centre.

@Doreen, this ringleader got exactly what he deserved. Wish he died then it would have served as a lesson to other street thugs and elected Luo misleaders.

What was he doing there after people had been told to demonstrate at their own peril. This is hilarious to say the least but pole mheshimiwa. Waheshimiwa are not supposed to break the laws but when they do they cry foul cos they feel more important than the walking mwananchi supporting them being tear gassed through it all.Bure Kabisa. What happened to the people who broke their limbs after being ran over by a car? Has anyone helped them?

Looking at the picture I thought its a bride wearing a bridal gown. Took a second look to realize its SMOKE. Now thats funny. And when he collapsed after being tear gassed, their OWN hired goons turned on them and started robbing them! Instead of the people he was driving with helping him after fainting, they drove off to protect their material things. So many lessons to be learned. Typical Kenyans of today.

This story sounds fake. First the smoke from the car looks photo shopped.why didn't the one who took the picture also take one of the collapsed MP. Police don't throw teargas, they fire them, and will not waste two where one is effective. The driver was able to drive off with teargas in the car?and leave his boss on the street? Bull s***t

Serves him right! That is exactly what these idiotic leaders expose their vulnerable, ignorant, poor 'followers' and gangs-for-hire to. The youth they should be molding into responsible adults are taught and paid to cause chaos and havoc. Good lesson!

Am reading the comments here and I take comfort in the knowledge, we will all die at some point.
This is inhuman and cruel.
Jubilee government needs to find other solutions to issues raised by Kenyans.

" ....solutions to issues raised by Kenyans." You should say lawlessness perpetrated by NASA. Constitution has solution already. It is NASA that wants to circumvent the law of the land for Heaven's sake!

Am I missing something here? I thought Dr. Matiangi said no demos in the CBD. I don't recall hearing no demos period. Why can't the opposition work with him come up with an alternate route. let those who are not participating carry on their business in peace. Also, people are crying saying that the cops teargassed a school, why are this demos leading them to the school then attacking from the school, surely what do you think will happen. Schools should also use discretion especially kindergartners and nursery schools are concerned, if you can't provide protection or are on a demo route then close the school

Non-violent protest have been the most effective in history. Defying orders whether legal or illegal, is a form of illegality in itself. This is like refusing to head warnings or check your environment as you drive because you think you have "right of way"-what often follows is a disaster that would otherwise have been avoided. One sage once admonished me that innocence and being right is not enough to get you out of trouble. You need to be in the right place! This guy was in the wrong place and celebrated Halloween in early October.
