Comedian Churchill: I Turned Down Opportunity to Study at Chicago University

Veteran Kenyan comedian Daniel Ndambuki, well known as Churchill, says that he regrets having turned down an opportunity to study in the United States.

In an interview when he celebrated his 40th birthday recently, the entertainer, credited for nurturing hundreds of top comedians in the country through his Churchill Live show, said he had been given a scholarship to study drama at Chicago University but rejected it.

He admits that he could probably have achieved more by now had he embraced the opportunity to school at one of the most renowned institutions of higher learning in the world.

"You see after high school I could have joined drama school immediately. I got an opportunity to study drama via a scholarship in Chicago University in the United States but I hesitated. I let that chance go. Maybe if I had grabbed it, I would have been doing things differently today and maybe I would have been much better at comedy," He said.

He adds: "It has taken me a long time to get where I am right now, 15 years is quite some time you now. But I tend to think that had I joined Chicago University, I would have achieved what I have now earlier and faster. For instance, I would have learnt production earlier which is something I have had to take lessons on while on the job. Juggling production and comedy hasn’t been easy. Not having the knowledge of production earlier made me lose much both financially and creative wise."

I thought there was a story that was published sometime back of how you were denied visa 3 times to travel to America and now you say you turned down an offer to study at Chicago university. Which story do we go with?

Churchill you seem to be reminiscing alot lately only that your stories just don't add up. Have you hit the midlife crisis? This is confusing, is it part of comedy or are you for real man?

You may have been caught up with the Diaspora life and maybe today we would not have Churchill show as we know it. You probably would be further away from all your accomplishments today. Just saying. Thank God for the far he has brought you.

Mmmh... same guy who turned the president's self invitation down to attend his 40th bash?! Don't blame him...He is simply suffering from a complex often seen from folks originating from lake Victoria regions, in other words, it's innate. The longest sufferer of this condition is none other than his grand dad, babu Raila. What condition? I hear you ask. It's a combo of inferiority complex, inflated ego laced with delusional perception of the world. This combo manifests itself by exhibition of a distorted sense of entitlement, self and others. Cure? No cure to date, except containment by periodically massaging the sufferers ego. So please, go easy on the man, just like Uhuru has been easy with Odinga.
