Report Shows President Uhuru's New Cabinet Nominees are Worth Sh2.2 Billion

A report by the National Assembly Committee on Appointments indicates that President Kenyatta’s nine new Cabinet nominees have a combined net worth of about Sh2.2 billion.

The committee, which carried out the vetting of the appointees last week, had Water nominee Simon Chelugui as the wealthiest of the nine.

Chelugui is the former director of the Betting Control and Licensing Board and has an estimated net worth of about Sh796 million, consisting of investments in real estate, movable assets and farming.

Environment nominee Keriako Tobiko, who served as the Director of Public Prosecutions until his appointment is second richest in the list. The lawyer estimated his wealth at Sh360 million, made up of investments in real estate, agriculture and livestock.

Public Service, Youth and Gender nominee Margaret Kobia said she is worth Sh165 million, comprising of expected future benefits from service gratuity and investments in real estate.

Former Turkana Senator John Munyes, who the is the Mining nominee estimated his wealth at Sh50 million, comprising of investments in real estate, transport, salary and allowances.

Foreign Relations nominee Monica Juma approximated her net worth at around Sh50 million, accrued from salary and income from farming.

Ms Farida Karoney (Lands) estimated her net worth at Sh200 million. She is a journalist and was the chief operating officer Royal Media Services Ltd until her appointment, her wealth being in investments in shares, farming and real estate.

Former Meru Governor, Peter Munya (East Africa Community) said his total net worth was Sh264.1 million, consisting of investments in real estate, agriculture and land.

Ex-Wajir Governor Ukur Yatani, who has been appointed to be Labour CS, put his net worth at Sh295 million with investments in transport, movable assets, real estate and livestock.

Sports nominee, Rashid Echesa told the Committee that he had a net worth of Sh40 million being in movable assets, real estate and construction.
