Seven KDF Soldiers Killed after an IED Attack by Suspected Al Shabaab Militants

Seven Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers lost their lives on Sunday, while a few others sustained serious injuries after a military vehicle they were travelling in run over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the Somalia town of Dhobley.

Sources said the vehicle was hit by the IED, causing a massive explosion, but military headquarters in Kenya is yet to issue a statement on the attack.

“The IED tore apart the vehicle, killing the soldiers instantly,” a security source told Capital FM News.

The vehicle carrying the soldiers was part of a convoy headed to a military base in Dhobley located in the Somalia’s Lower Juba region, when the attack by suspected Al Shabaab militants occurred.

The Somali rebel group, which is still active in the area, is yet to claimed responsibility of the attack.

The attack came even as United Embassy in Nairobi on Sunday issued a warning of imminent attacks in Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The American Embassy said terrorists are mainly targeting congested areas including bus parks, matatu terminus, schools, churches and other congested places.
