President Kenyatta to Grace Legendary Kenyan Singer Joseph Kamaru's Burial

President Kenyatta is among leaders expected to grace the burial of legendary Kenyan artiste Joseph Kamaru.

The celebrated Kikuyu musician passed away last week while receiving treatment at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi. The 79-year-old was suffering from Parkinson Plus syndrome.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday at his Kaharati farm in Maragua, Muranga County. Murang’a County Commissioner John Elung’ata confirmed to The Star that the President will be attending the singer's funeral.

Deputy President William Ruto, opposition leader Raila Odinga, Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and several other leaders are also expected to grace Kamaru's final sendoff.

The benga star will be remembered for his popular hits such as Ndari ya Mwalimu and Tiga Kuhenia Igoyi and many others, which have shaped the Kikuyu culture.

President Uhuru mourned Kamaru, a father of four, as one of the greatest musicians the country has produced.

“It was a blessing for us as a country to have had such a talented artiste who played a big role in promoting the Kenyan brand of music. Indeed we will miss his educative music which was unique in many aspects,” said President Kenyatta.

“He recorded nearly 2,000 songs addressing morality and offering life teachings. The songs stamped his status as a Kikuyu music legend who touched the hearts of music lovers with classic hits such as Gathoni and Charia Ungi,” Kenyatta added.
