Twalib Mbarak Takes Oath as New EACC CEO, Sends Warning to Graft Lords

Twalib Abdallah Mbarak has on Monday taken oath as the new Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mbarak, a former National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer, takes over from Halakhe Waqo whose six-year tenure ended last week.

He has been sworn-in in a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice David Maraga at the Supreme Court building in Nairobi.

Attorney General Paul Kihara, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala have witnessed his swearing-in.

In his speech, Mbarak has sent a warning to graft lords, stating that it will not be business as usual.

“Corrupt persons thrive on volatility. They exploit it for personal gain, and I am committed to make corruption a high-risk venture in this country. Kenya will be a very inhospitable place for people who are corrupt,” he says.

“I envision a country that is a hostile environment for corrupt individuals. Crime does not expire. You can acquire that dirty wealth but we will come for you. And we will make it very expensive for you because you will not have a retirement benefit from proceeds of corruption,” adds Mbarak.

Twalib Mbarak served in the military for 14 years before joining the National Intelligence Service until 2006.

Welcome! Mbarak Please declare you assets publicly NOW...before commence any task.

We're hoping you may sooner purchase a house in Westland or Muthaiga and move from the Kilifi creek.
This is a matter of time will tell.

Your coming raises our hopes but it is your actions that will keep the expectation high. Individuals do not make effective institutions, what you will need is a functional team, a critical mass of ethical and tactical people of different expertise. If your team comprises of only legal experts and security agents then the team is likely to be blindsided by the plethora and the sophistication of some of the cases. The oath of office is not oath of secrecy; and so use the 4th estate as an ally in fighting the vice that corruption is. As always good intentions will not get the work done;do not allow cartels and their proxies very close to you before you make a decision; otherwise they compromise you. Your job maybe fruitful if you are decisive and forthright; playing man of the people will be a quick sand that will only exhaust you with no results. You are the cop Kenyans of goodwill have been waiting for. Throw your hat in the ring and take the battle to the bad guys. It is simply, are you going to make a difference or let them down amid excuses?

I second that, declare your assets both physical, in-stocks and in liquid form. When you do that Sheriff Twalib A Mbarak, then we can belief you are ready for anti- graft business. Otherwise you're just parroting the chorus from your predecessors!

Be realistic Mr.mbarak.What makes you believe you can solve a riddle that has baffled all the presidents since independance?.
However, you have an opportunity to make some crooks uncomfortable, that's for sure.
Like they say, talk is cheap.Anybody can talk. What will differentiate you from everybody will be fruits of your actions.
Corruption thrives in kenya, because Kenyans let it.Our minds have been corrupt. We need to sanitize them first because we have come to accept corruption as cost of doing business.

The song is the same. I won't believe anything he says. Action speaks volumes. All politicians and government officials should declare their wealth to maintain public employment. We have heard the same song before and nothing has changed. Corruption is rampant all over the country. Words, words, words. Show us what you have done.
