Joho: How I Became a Millionaire at the Age of 20

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has opened up about his journey to becoming a multi-millionaire.

In a feature aired on Citizen TV, Joho has revealed that he started doing business in Mombasa when he was very young.

Governor Joho explains that when he was 20 years old, he secured a deal that changed his life forever.

Joho, who was speaking to Citizen TV news anchor Lilian Muli, discloses that he got a clearing and forwarding deal at the port of Mombasa where he pocketed Sh6.6 million in his first transaction.

"That is the first amount that I saw and I said this is it. After that, I slowly grew my business and diversified," Joho narrates.

The second-term Governor says he later won a lucrative five-year tender for pesticide control and waste management for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in 1997.

The 43-year-old politician says he easily won the contract since no one was offering such services in Mombasa at the time.

Joho says this enabled him to slowly build his empire that is currently worth millions of shillings.

He later joined politics in 2004 before being elected Member of Parliament for Kisauni Constituency in 2007 and Mombasa Governor in 2013 and 2017.

He is also the Deputy Party leader for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and has set his eyes on the Presidency in 2022.

He is the most influential political figure in Mombasa and the Coast region.

Sadly, these guys are worshiped by many people. You should see how they throw money around in entertainment joints. On a recent trip to Kenya, a friend who drives a souped up Mercedes SUV, offered to drop be home after a night out in the town. When we got to the parking lot, four young ladies were hanging around and said hi to him because they wouldn't go home before they saw who drives that car...and yes, phone numbers were exchanged. The level of greed in Kenya is at an unbelievable level. That attitude will be the undoing of the country.
