28-Year-Old Kenyan Woman who Delivered Quintuplets Last Month Passes Away

A 28-year-old Kenyan woman who delivered quintuplets last month has passed away in the hospital.

Evelyn Namukhula from Sisokhe Village in Kakamega County died on Sunday at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, where she was admitted with her five newborns.

She is said to have complained of chest pains and headache on Saturday night before succumbing hours later.

Ms. Namukhula hit media headlines last month when she gave birth to three girls and two boys through C-Section at Kakamega General Hospital on March 13th.

She was later referred to MTRH after one of the babies developed complications.

MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson Arwasa says the new mother suffered from a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot, which blocked blood vessels in her lungs.

“This morning, doctors recommended a CT Scan to identify the spot of the blood clot. Immediately after the scan, she vomited, started sweating and had difficulty breathing before collapsing midday,” Dr. Aruasa says.

“Initial tests confirmed that her heart was enlarged and some fluids had formed around it. We can’t determine what happened. A post-mortem examination will confirm. For now, we can’t say much. Let’s allow the family to grief."

Two of her babies, both boys, passed on last week while under special care at the same facility.

“The remaining three girls are doing well and under special attention by our nurses,” adds Aruasa.

The deceased and her husband Herbert Wawire have four other children.

Reminds us all that bringing life to this world still is a life and death affair more so for black women everywhere. So much to learn from this story and many steps ought to be taken or we risk(as we always have) finding ourselves in similar situations when we knew better.RIP.

Poor care. They should have known that carrying 5 babies adds pressure to the heart, and a clot burster is in order after a surgery. Our healthcare is nyuma

The elders should have been eliminated immediately they said they want 2 babies killed. They have contributed in this misery.

Koni Hanene you are a fucked up piece of shit. Ati Kakamega is a backward community. And you call yourself dr. Spitting around stereotypes like that. You make assumptions about a whole community based on this. What a classic piece of shit!
