US Marine Kennedy Okemwa Charged for Insulting Traffic Cops in Nairobi

A US Marine has been arraigned in court for causing public disturbance and insulting police officers in Nairobi.

Appearing before a Nairobi court, Kennedy Okemwa, 41, was charged with causing a public disturbance.

Okemwa is accused of creating a disturbance at Makongeni Police Station, where he was detained following his misconduct towards traffic officers along Nairobi's Jogoo Road.

Police said the military officer failed to fasten a safety belt on his way to Nairobi CBD when his car was flagged down by officers along Jogoo road.

Okemwa, an American citizen, also refused to obey the officers' order of belting up.

He instead turned violent and insulted the traffic cops, forcing them to arrest and lock him up at Makongeni Police Station.

While in police cells, the accused allegedly continued shouting and threatening to break and destroy a dwelling house belonging to stationed officers if he was not released.

Okemwa has denied the charges and has been freed on a cash bail of Sh20,000.

His case will be heard on July 22nd, 2019.

@ Ken Motley,I tend to agree with you there. The fellow alijiona ni mwamerika, and as such better than the regular Joe-six-pac who resides in Nairobi,or Kenya for that matter.Anywhere in the world, the rule is the same, approach the law with humility, even when you know they are corrupt. Its your word against theirs. And their is nothing you can do if they embellish what transpired.Witness or not, you lose. So yes humble yourself.

People make mistakes and so do I and you too.

Diaspora needs to be protected in Kenya cause of they hard-working money contribution in the economy and specially animosity towards them from locals in particular from the police force.

Just saying from experience with police

I am also a US Marine and am glad my fellow brother was locked up for his behaviour.Just because you are an American citizen, gives you no rights to break or disrespect the law.I bet he would not have acted that way in the US,so why in Kenya.Nasema, exercise the law and give this fool what he deserves.Be humble my brother especially in our Motherland.
