I Have Forgiven Myself over DJ Evolve’s Shooting, MP Babu Owino Says

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has promised to fully settle the medical bills of Felix Orinda alias DJ Evolve.

DJ Evolve has been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital since January 17th, when he was allegedly shot on the neck by Babu at B-Club in Nairobi.

In an interview with Capital FM on Thursday, MP Babu said he had chosen to forgive himself over the shooting even as he played down claims that the incident has seen his popularity decline.

“That matter as you all know and as Kenyans know is a matter that is sub judice. It is a matter that is before a court of law and a matter before a court of law should not be discussed, as much as I would love to discuss and talk about it,” Babu said in reference to a court case against him.

“Secondly, it is a matter that is between me and God and I chose to forgive myself and I want to tell you, we cannot change the past but we can change the future. Let us focus on what is coming in the foreseeable future, let us not dwell so much in our past because we can’t change it no matter how much we wish to change it.”

“I will pay the [hospital] bill and I’ll leave it at that… I would not talk about it because it is a matter before a court of law,” he added.

As of February 23rd, 2020, DJ Evolve’s medical bill stood at Sh7 million and was projected to rise further as he was still admitted to the ICU.

On Tuesday, High Court Justice Luka Kimaru reduced Babu’s cash bail from Sh10 million to Sh5 million and faulted a decision by the lower court ordering the accused to foot the hospital bill of DJ Evolve.

Justice Kimaru said it was improper for the accused to be ordered to cover the medical bill given that he remains innocent until found guilty.

“The accused person should continue paying the hospital bill as a moral duty to him, not as a court order … if he fails to pay it is up to him and his God,” Justice Kimaru noted.

Babu pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and disorderly behavior while carrying a firearm.

How on earth does one forgive self? Best way to forgive self is not to act in the first place. Unafikiri watu wanjinga? Ha!

That is a new one. Now the criminals are forgiving themselves. You almost killed the man who might never walk again and you are allowed to be out there and continue with your work. Now you chose to forgive yourself. What kind of world is this?????????

It is a world of selfforgiveness after the court sets you free for attempted murder. It is also a world of self quarantine. When you are infected with corono virus you can spread the virus all you want just as you can murder all you want. All this with one caveat though, you can not be a commoner.

Let's throw these legal mumbojumbo away for aminute. The fellow(Owino the Mp) shot the DJ- let the lawyers deal with" allegedly". We are not all lawyers, give us the layman's language.-Ongili shot the DJ.Period.Has he denied it? He may have said that he was not guilty, but that is not the same as denying the shooting.
And what is this nonsense about not dealing with the past, and concentrating on the future? Well, before he shot the DJ,it was future, then after shooting him it came to past(in the past). If we do not change, the present, the future will become a bitter past"again".In other words, it is the shooter,Mr.Ongili who has to change his behavior. He should not shoot people in the present,or future,as he has done in the past.

@maxiley - I need your assistance! The young guy called Evans Odhiambo, that we sent to Kisii High in January 2020 needs some additional financial help.

He has a computer study trip to Nairobi coming up soon @ shs 4000.00, he needs required books @ shs 2000.00, and he needs to replace some stolen school clothes costing about shs 3000.00.

I have several other pupils that I’m currently sponsoring and I’m now reaching out to you, my brother to chip in whatever you can afford in your capacity. I can give you his father’s tel contact if you are willing to help so you can mess him! I have full confidence in Evans father and I’m sure he will do the right thing!

Please let me know! Thank you.

@maxiley - Thank you so much for your quick response!!

Francis Onyango Onyango Minyorwa is the father to this very bright pupil, Evans Odhiambo, currently a Form One pupil at Kisii High School.

His Tel# is 254-723731339. Please talk to Francis and you will deeply feel blessed to get to know him!

I have been communicating with him on regular basis. He is a very honesty needy man. He works very hard as a Bonda Bonda rider to support his family.

I sent him Evans school fees through MPESA for a whole year, last January 2020. And he personally went to Kisii High school and paid. Later he sent me a certified receipt to confirm his honesty!

He reached out to me earlier today because of some additional unforeseen school expenses which have come up. I think it is only fair that we can step in and help.

I have also talked to his wonderful wife and his other children. There is no scam here. They are good people!

I’m reaching out to you, my brother, because you promised me that you are willing to help this deserving young man to achieve his academic goal.

It is such a good feeling to know that I can reach out to you to help out others in the hour of need.

Thanks to Mwakilishi for enabling this kind of thing to happen! Thank you @maxiley!!!

@maxiley - thanks my brother! I have tried to call him since late yesterday to no avail. His phone acts up time to time; I think he has a pretty old set. Just keep trying and I will do the same! Most of the time I communicate with him through what’sup handle, mainly through writing.

I have started thinking what I can do for this family so that Francis can start earning a decent income to support his family. I hope to give him a proverbial “fishing-rod” so he can be able to fish for his family.

I thought about buying him a new motorcycle for his Bonda Bonda rider business to give him an edge in life. He currently uses a 2009 motorcycle that he leases out for shs 300.00 per day; a total of shs 9000.00 per month! I have also thought about starting a “Mutumba” business for his wife as well. Do you have some good small business ideas that can uplift a family from poverty?

Francis rides with a broken leg from a car accident he sustained in 2008. His family of seven lives in a one room ‘house’ in Migori, Kenya. I have been hesitate to publicly talk about Francis’s situation, but I am now doing it hoping that others can step in to help him.

Thanks Maxiley for all your help! Asante sana Ndugu! Please, we have to find a way to communicate more openly!

@maxiley - I have also sent him several messages through text and WhatsApp without any response. I have called him severally but the call does not go through.

I have had similar comms problems before. I think the towers in Migori are very weak. Or possibly his phone is not charged.

@maxiley, you are very blessed to be where you live. It is through trying to help others you end up realizing their situation. I begin to appreciate the total meaning of living a life of fulfillment, Joy and peace!

@ Maina, awhile ago, you said something that touched me. You said that you have been scammed before, but still are undetered to do what is good. I have been scammed, and got very furious,as anybody would.
It disappoints me that we do not have a system in the government where young men with brains and ambition like Evans Odhiambo could find assistance.I will always help when ever I can, because when Odhiambo's of the world succeed, we all benefit as a society.

@maxiley - you and I met through MP Babu message as was doing some good acts of kindness trying to help a pupil so that she does not commit suicide due to lack of school fees.

Four months later, just look at what Babu is dealing with because of the demons in which he is embroiled for making instant bad choices as he attempted to kill another young man. A true irony in life!

Yes indeed a true irony;now that you mentioned .No doubt he has a helping heart,we all do in varying degrees. And we also are unpredictable is certain situations, just like everybody. It is very unfortunate that Babu short the young man. I wish he had though it through before pulling the trigger, but its too later. However, I wonder what really angered him so much that he had to shoot the young man,and could he be angered to that extend again?Possible.
His good deeds notwithstanding I still wonder why he shot the young man.Does he have a mental issue. You remember he insulted the president... Talk of forces of Evil Vs Forces of Good...

@maxiley - My passion is to see a better educated Kenyan youth. I’m a stickler in getting things done. Once I have started something, I have difficulties stopping a worthy cause without completion. I have been trying to help the youth in need for quite sometime now. I have more successes than failures.

But in the process doing grand things from a distance, I have been scammed along the way. You see the love of money is the root of all evils; and some folks get totally inebriated when money comes into play.

Nevertheless, we cannot stop doing what is morally good simply because one or two bad apples did some crazy stuff to spoil for others.

It seems that Evans Odhiambo’s case is going to be a success. I was initially nervous before we got started last January but I came to realize the reason we do not do good things is because of fear. Fear is the worst enemy to human progress! It is because of fear that our country have continued to live in suspicion which causes divisions across tribal lines. Fear of one another have kept us divided.

I hope to help Evans with education so that some day he may be able to support himself and by extension his family and the other Kenyans. Evans told me he wants to become a medical doctor. I pray that God gives him knowledge and wisdom so he can fulfill his academic dream goals.

I have other children that I’m helping across Kenya. It does not matter what part of the country from where they come. I look at them as little brothers and sisters who innocently fell into some unavoidable situation(s).

There are elected officials, civil servants, and others who can help but they simply don’t care or they don’t know any better. The political climate in Kenya have become a major stumbling block to getting things done. Elective offices have become a bedrock of Connmanship, frustrations and despair to the electorates. Elected servants have turned out to be scavengers to those they are supposed to serve!

Hopefully, the future generations will jointly work in one voice to unanimously reverse the direction Kenya is going so that every one can benefit. That is what I hope the young Othiambos of this world will be able to accomplish!

Well said Ndugu Maina. I will certainly let you know as soon as I speak with Evan,or his father. Again thanks for helping out on worthy causes. You are an inspiration to many. And I hope those to have been blessed with wealth, and do not have that spirit of helping take a page from the way you live.
We can make Kenya abetter place for all of us if we take the notion that your brothers problems are your, and his joy is your as well.Yes.It takes a village to raise a child.

How very magnanimous of himself. The perpetrator forgives himself so everything is cool now. We can all move on with our lives now. Except for that the young man he crippled for life. Talk about arrogant and insensitive.

Everything MP Awino says here is a bunch of carcass! You don’t shoot another human being and then tell us you have forgiven yourself!

MP Awino must be held accountable for his unfortunate actions. Bunch of nonsense!

Kenyans need to feel safe in whatever place they are in. Politicians can’t be killing citizens at will and then get by with it. Awino is a murderer who should be in jail as we speak.

Guest (not verified)     Thu, 03/05/2020 @ 06:42pm

He has the audacity to deny that his popularity has diminished really and how did he arrive at this.It matters not that you have forgiven yourself but rather when this young man you almost killed will ever get justice and will he be alive to see it.Why is ODM silent and the payukering and obnoxious MCA`s sit back and it is business as usual.Justice should not be a right accorded to the rich only as is currently happening in Kenya
