Former MP Ramadhan Kajembe Dies, Two Weeks After Losing Wife to Alleged Covid-19 Complications
Former Changamwe MP Ramadhan Seif Kajembe has died.
Kajembe, a former assistant Cabinet minister, passed away on Friday while undergoing treatment at Pandya Memorial Hospital in Mombasa, where he was admitted two weeks ago.
His death was confirmed by Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, who is the deceased’s son-in-law.
Kajembe was hospitalized shortly after the death of his second wife Zaharia who is alleged to have succumbed to coronavirus-related complications. Zaharia’s death came barely four months after Kajembe lost his first wife Aziza.
On Friday, MP Twalib refuted claims that his father-in-law died of complications related to Covid-19.
“We are not experts so we cannot say he had those complications. What I know is that he had another disease, which led to his admission to the hospital,” he said.
Kajembe served as an MP for three five-year terms between 1997 and 2013 and Assistant Minister for Environment from 2008 to 2013. He also served the chairperson of the Kenya Ferry Service (KFS) board from 2016 to 2019.
“My sincere condolences to the family of Hon. Ramadhan Seif Kajembe, former MP for Changamwe. He was a dedicated servant of the people of Changamwe whose rights he defended without fear. May his soul Rest In Eternal Peace,’ ODM leader Raila Odinga tweeted.
