BBI Launch: DP Ruto Heckled at Bomas of Kenya as He Pokes Holes in BBI Report

Deputy President William Ruto was heckled by the audience during the launch of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday.

This was after he declared he would continue with his initiative in which he has been donating wheelbarrows to Kenyans as a way of empowering them.

Ruto was responding to the youth leader, Alex Matere who earlier gave a speech at the event, terming the wheelbarrow as a 16th-century invention that is out of its depth in the current time.

“The 16th-century inventions cannot be used to solve the challenges of the 21st century,” said Matere.

While he agreed the wheelbarrow was a 16th-century invention, Ruto stated that it is still handy to date and will continue donating the tool to ‘hustlers’, something that did not go well with the delegates who shouted him down, asking him to “respect the president.”

In his speech, Ruto expressed his reservations against the BBI report and went on to highlight some of the recommendations he feels do not mean well for Kenyans.

He took issue with the proposal to allow political parties to participate in the appointment of IEBC commissioners, saying players cannot be allowed to choose who will referee their match.

“How fare will a league be, where a referee is appointed by teams, and not all the teams but some teams? unless you tell me that it is okay for some teams to appoint the referee…and if that is what you are saying, I have my reservation.”

Ruto also disagreed with the proposed creation of an independent office of the Judiciary Ombudsman, terming it as an affront to the independence of the Judiciary.

“Having an ombudsman appointed by the Executive into the Judiciary is a derogation from the independence of the institution,” he said.

He also questioned the proposal to create a police council chaired by a Cabinet Secretary, saying it amounts to political interference.

“To recommend that we will have a police council, chaired by a CS is actually a derogation from the independence of the police,” said Ruto.

How can Ruto steal a PhD is science and then call himself a scientist?? How?

DP Ruto - what is the result of mixing hydrogen with oxygen if you are really a true scientist??

@Ruto - did your mother know if you gonna turn out to be a thief (the high priest of corruption) or a scientist!? And which profession would she have preferred for you to be?

I may disagree with him but that observation regarding the IEBC is spot on. As for old inventions I wonder if the wheel is any less useful now than 5500 years ago according to matere

On point. The Matere guy is just parroting what he hears from the deep state inner circles who see Ruto as their enemy. I dare say, a wheelbarrow is more useful today more than ever before. It refused to be obsolete! From farming, to construction site, to hardware industry it is still a hardy tool. It is still a mechanically advantage machine that make work easy.

Kwani, what is used to ferry mawe/materials at building sites? What is used as an Ambulance in the neglected slums of Nairobi. Look at this wheelbarrow saviour...

You'd be forgiven to think that the loud mouths use helicopters and their SUVs to ferry mawe...and the lesser humans to medical facilities.

Kibao Sana for that crip...it have added another dimension.saving another life and adding value to the Health sector! Some goons who live in glass houses now see a wheelbarrow as stoneage technology, yet the live in stone houses built with help of wheelbarrow. They lack creative & critical thinking all combined.

DP Ruto, if you are a scientist and too slow, please don’t accuse other Kenyans of being slow like you!

Kenyans understand what benefits them very quickly! You are only slow when you want to be that “winner takes all guy”! You would be the first guy if we are talking about grabbing other people’s pieces of land (both small and big)!

But when it comes to the issues of corruption, you become the very fast guy in the front line! Please do not talk to us like we are children!

No wonder you got heckled by deligates because they can see through Ruto the extra greedy guy!

Stop insulting the scientists for your political benefits. They will not buy your wheelbarrow economic sense! They want better for kenya.

The deep state says creating office of prime minister is in their thinking a way of diffusing tribal animosity. In my observation this appears to be creating a position just for one known individual or tribe. What happens to the rest of the tribes? Should anyone of the tribes in Kenya ask for prime minister position?
And if for example Martha Karua and Peter Kenneth happens to be the sole runners in opposite parties? According to the BBI, both of them will be in government one being president and the other prime minister!! Will this therefore solve the tribal problems?

No! BBI will never solve tribalism and never will. Tribe like slavery was the original sin planted by Jomo and like minded leaders who looked for themselves, their families and close buddies in Govt. Mwalimu Julius Kabarage Nyerere the founder father of Ujamaa in TZ saw it coming inform of Capitalism. He opted to go Socialists and unite his country under Undugu, Ujamaa na Uswahili. The BBI document does not enlighten us on how it will save Kenya from demons of tribalism. BBI in it face value is all about an expanding the functions of an imperial President.
