Transport CAS Wavinya Ndeti Resigns to Vie for Machakos Governor's Seat

Transport and Infrastructure Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti has resigned to run for the Machakos governor’s seat.

Wavinya, a former MP for Kathiani, tendered her resignation on Friday in line with the provisions of section 43 (5) of the Elections Act, which requires public officers eyeing elective seats to step down from their positions six months before the general election.

Citing her experience as an MP and a public officer, Wavinya says she is the best candidate to take Machakos County to the next level.

“I am armed with a strong resolve to put our County back on the path to prosperity," she said in a media briefing on Thursday.

Wavinya contested for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in the 2017 elections on a Wiper party ticket but she lost narrowly to incumbent Governor Alfred Mutua of Maendeleo Chap Chap.

She was appointed as the CAS, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works in January 2020 by President Kenyatta. Prior to this, Wavinya served as the Chairperson of the Governing Council, Kenya Water Institute.

“Kama ni kupenda kwa mwenyezi Mungu, nataka nichukue miaka yangu kumi, nichukue penye alikua ameachia nipeleke Machakos to the other level,” she added.

Wavinya will go head-to-head with former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, who have declared their candidature for the county’s top seat.
