Ruto Says the Handshake Led to His Fallout with President Uhuru

Deputy President William Ruto says the handshake contributed to his fallout with President Kenyatta.

In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) on Friday, Ruto admitted that President Kenyatta kept him abreast during the entire process that led to the famous handshake between him and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Ruto, who is presently on a week-long tour of the US, claimed that the handshake quickly mutated into a plot to kill the opposition and amend the constitution, contrary to what the three leaders initially agreed.

“The handshake was formed to kill oversight of the government, we didn’t discuss that members of the ruling party would be jettisoned so that members of the opposition can occupy committees in parliament,” said Ruto

He insisted that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), whose main aim was to introduce changes to the 2010 constitution, was not part of the agreement between them.

“We didn’t agree that this was an exercise in changing the constitution and form an exercise of succession. Everything we didn’t agree became the handshake, expect from the things we didn’t agree about,” said Ruto.

“I have no problem with the handshake, my problem is that it became what I did not agree with.”

The deputy president dismissed President Uhuru’s claim that the handshake restored peace in the country and created a conducive environment for the Jubilee government to deliver its pledges.

“We lost the opposition, we lost the government, we lost the Big Four agenda. We lost direction,” Ruto noted.

More than 10 billion were stolen during the BBI procurement. Billions of Covid money stolen, 2 billion a day being stolen, farmers unions shredding with the help of Atwoli to benefit the competitor Uhurus businesses, economy stifled to benefit a few, the opposition party been killed, economic sabotage by closing businesses of those who want to exercise their democracy of choice, borrowing 11 trillion to build 5 trillion road and other projects and the rest of money stolen etc. All this is done with the collaboration from the former official opposition party of ODM whose candidate is running president, with a shared interest that if he wins, he is going to change the constitution to allow Uhuru as premier.

Uhuru wanted peace so that the country can move on but Ruto wanted war because that is what Ruto does best. Ruto is a war monger and a colossal thief.

Ruto wanted to weaken Uhuru so that he could get him impeached, but Uhuru quickly turned the tables on Ruto!

Ruto is not really honest about his intentions in the 2nd term. He made leading the country almost impossible because he want to appear like he was an equal to the president.

What is the problems with members of the opposition occupying committees Ruto? Are they not Kenyans too?

Your party members were kicked out of those committees after undermining the same government they were sown to protect and defend! Uhuru did the right thing to fire them and I wish he fired you too and let the chips fall wherever they may have fallen.

I’m not sure how Ruto will lead the country if he were elected president. He is not fully mature to lead Kenyans.

The problem with Ruto is the simple fact that he whins too much and lacks the basic instinct about the order of things! He is also a guy who subverts the course of justice while blaming others to cover up for his shortcomings.

Ruto does not really possess the values necessary to be president. At lease not in 2022.

Uhuru and Kibaki should explain if muuaji Raila is ABOVE the Kenyan laws? Why sign peace accords instead of the savage facing the law?It is well known that the handshake was/is for looting just like they did with Kibaki. How come South African govt which is 31 years “YOUNGER” than Kenya easily enforced their law by jailing jambazi Zuma despite 350 SA Luos,Zulus volunteering to die for his release?RISASI TU.

You can see that Ruto is Avery disturbed man in every way. He may have accumulated all the wealth through corruption but it’s apparently clear that Ruto lives a very disturbed and lonely life. Such a guy is not the right mix to be president of our country.

Ruto thought he was sharper and trickier than Uhuru in his miscalculated politics but the turn of events proved otherwise. He lost badly and he is now very bitter about his poor judgment.

Uhuru Kenyatta's cowardice is the singular reason that our country is in the valley of despair. After he was sworn in as per the constitution - after the second election, he failed to defend and protect the country and people of Kenya against all enemies foreign and domestic. Raila refused to contest the second election ordered by chief justice Maraga, after sensing defeat, yet he was the one who petitioned the court claiming the election was stolen. He then swears himself in as the peoples president of Kenya and Uhuru does nothing. There is no legitimate president, sworn in as per the country's constitution, in Africa or anywhere else in the world, that would allow another man to swear himself in as the president. Uhuru had all the instruments of power and had a duty to defend and protect our constitution. His failure led to a co-president, division, and confusion in the government of Kenya. The bloodbath that will be the hallmark of the forthcoming election is the price of Uhuru's cowardice. Unfortunately, it's the innocent kenyans that will pay.

Kwa nini?

Mr. Ruto if handshake is what brought out fallout. Why not negotiate with him instead of back stab him. You have to grow up and remember you are not perfect, you can disagree to agree, and the interest of the country are more important than your personal agenda.
