Senator Kimani Wamatangi Ditches Jubilee for UDA Party, to Vie for Kiambu Governor Seat

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has ditched the ruling Jubilee Party ahead of the August 9th elections.

Wamatangi, who doubles up as the Senate Majority Whip, decamped to Deputy President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party on Sunday and announced he will vie for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the upcoming elections.

“My feet are on fire because I came here running. I have consulted with vegetable vendors at the market, small and medium businesspeople, my family, and even church leaders and they told me, if I want to move to the next level, I must join UDA,” Wamatangi said during a Kenya Kwanza coalition rally at Thika stadium.

The second-term senator pledged to traverse the vote-rich county to popularize the UDA party and Ruto’s presidential bid.

“Those who care know very well about every step you (DP Ruto) took to ensure Jubilee was the most popular party. Now I am here and wherever you are going I will be here with you and ensure UDA is the most prominent party and that it will be respected as much as Jubilee was respected,” said Wamatangi.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of Tujibebe Wakenya Party and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria of Chama cha Kazi, who are also eying the Kiambu governor’s seat, also attended the rally.

Great choice Sen. Wamatangi.! You are strategic, pragmatic, sober, and intentional. Your development record speaks for itself. You stand a very high chance of transforming Kiambu county if by God’s grace you win.

All of them should go home. From Kabogo, Moses kuria and Wamatangi.

It’s time for people who have never held political positions to take.

I love listening to this man and in my opinion he is one of the most articulate politicians around. Chances are, his decision to dump Jubilee was based on concrete reasons.

Oh, No you are way smart than to change parties and join RUTO. You can still be elected without joining UDA.

This is interesting. Seems like you don't need to be principled to do politics. I have always admired Dr. Wamatangi, but this time he has let me down. Anyway, I wish him all the best in his new home.

It looks like you don't need to be principled to do politics. I have always admired Dr. Wamatangi as a leader who is rational and focused, but has this time proved me wrong. Anyway, I wish him well in his new home.
