Senator Kindiki Takes a Break from Politics After Losing Ruto’s Running Mate Bid

Tharaka-Nithi Senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki has announced he is taking a break from active politics following his failed bid to become Deputy President William Ruto's running mate in the August 9th presidential election.

Ruto, who is eyeing the presidency under the UDA Party and Kenya Kwanza Alliance, settled on Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate while Kindiki emerged runner-up.

Addressing the press at Tamarind Hotel in Nairobi on Monday, Kindiki declared support for both Ruto and Gachagua, pledging to help the two to deliver a victory for the Kenya Kwanza camp.

"Earlier today I had the privilege of having a conversation with Gachagua. His brilliance has paid off at the party. I have wished him well and I have pledged my total and honest commitment to him and Ruto," Kindiki stated.

He added: “I have decided not to seek any appointed position whatsoever. After soul searching, I have decided to remain in the alliance and subordinate myself to DP Ruto and Rigathi. I have been in politics for 22 years and I am inspired by the philosophy that I would rather score for the team that will win. I am also inspired by the principle of never running away from history. I have always believed in making history.”

The two-time senator also confirmed that he beat Gachagua in the opinion polls to pick Ruto’s running mate but clarified that this was not the only criteria used in the sum total of the decision.

“I don't feel shortchanged. The decision to quit county politics was mine and the party's."

Kithure - you do not need to be WSR’s DP because the evils of corruption would have directly touched you.

Don’t take it too hard that Ruto did not pick you for the DP post to a point you stop living a quality life. In reality, you and Ruto would have not had a good working relationship.

Ruto is a conman. He conned you and the Meru people but life must go on. There is no friendship between you and Ruto. Your relationship with Ruto is all transactional - biashara!

You can’t quit politics because of Ruto’s deceit. Our boys are not cowards and they just don’t quit. Do not give Ruto the best of you. Dust yourself up and keep moving on…, and on!

Kindiki assumed Ruto was his friend, and he thought Ruto would be a gentleman. Ruto showed Kithure his true colors by dumping him at the eleventh hour.

Kithure got a shock of his life because he was naive enough not to see thru Ruto. Kithure should be happy because Ruto will not win.

Ruto is too gullible to be the next president of kenya. Kenyans will not elect a Mwizi for president. As it stands now, Kenyans have two thieves on top of the UDAku ticket. Kenyans know Ruto and Rigathi are thieves. Ruto is not electable to the position of Kenya’s president…

Ruto didn’t dump Kindiki. He actually elevated him by selecting him among the few considered for the DP position. It’s not like Kindiki was supposed to be the DP. He has to thank Ruto for being considerate of him.

Nonsense @asista. Kithure does not need Ruto to elevate him to any position. Don’t forget Ruto needs Tom, dick and Harry to elevate him. It’s the voters who will decide on Ruto’s fate. And things are not looking good for Ruto.

Ruto did not like an honest man being his deputy. He picked a corrupt Rigathi because both are thieves and they will continue to steal if by any bad luck they are elected to the office of the presidency. You are a true sycophant who is so blind to see clearly.
