Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) defeated Egyptian giants Al Ahly in Kelibia, Tunisia on Tuesday night to be crowned the Africa Women’s Volleyball Club champions.
The bankers bagged the continental title for the first time since 2006 and became the first Kenyan club to clinch the title in nine years after Kenya Prisons, who won it in 2013.
“I am profoundly grateful to God, KCB Bank, and this team for the amazing experience here in Tunisia. We came here knowing the quality of our opponents and we did not take any side for granted. We have been solid throughout the tournament and the girls have been exceptional. They deserve it,” KCB head coach Japheth Munala said.
The Kenyan side won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-22 but lost 25-11 to the record champions in the third set. The team made amends in the fourth set to avoid a tie breaker, winning 28-26 to clinch the title.
Opposite hitter Sharon Chepchumba starred for KCB, cumulatively making up for 32 points and was named the Most Valued Player (MVP).

@ Mkiratu, right. If we could only replicate that kind of excellence, and brilliance in education, eradicating corruption, strengthening family unity, being moral and ethical in our society...Basically if only our leaders, and politicians were that productive.Kenya would be paradise on earth.
