Comedian Eric Omondi Arrested While Distributing Unga at City Stadium

Comedian Eric Omondi was on Wednesday arrested while distributing maize flour to a group of his supporters at City Stadium in Nairobi.

Omondi, who is being held at Industrial Area police station, had invited Kenyans to the stadium, promising to distribute a packet of unga to everyone who is ready to accompany him when he leads a march from Uhuru Park to State House on March 7th in protest of the high cost of living.

The comedian indicated that Kenyans would also present their CVs, rent arrears, school fee arrears, shopping lists for basic necessities, and electricity bills to State House during the protest.

Omondi, who has recently been vocal about the economic hardships facing Kenyans, was intercepted by police officers as he attempted to hand out bags of flour to his supporters at City Stadium.

“Wakenya wenzetu hawana unga. Ni unga tu nilikuwa napeana,” Omondi said before he was whisked away.

Last week, Omondi was arrested in Nairobi’s central business district for protesting against the high cost of living.

Together with a group of over 30 men, the comedian blocked Parliament Road demanding an audience with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

He was arraigned in court along with 16 others and released on a bond of Sh20,000 or cash bail of Sh20,000.

They all denied one count of taking part in unlawful assembly before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina.
