US Embassy Issues Security Alert for Kenya
The United States Embassy has issued a security warning to its citizens in preparation for the vigils being organized by the Azimio la Umoja.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 25, the embassy cautioned that the events which will take place across the country may potentially become violent despite assurances from the opposition that they will remain peaceful. Traffic disruptions may also occur, so US citizens are advised to steer clear of the areas where the vigils will be held, keep a low profile, and monitor local media for updates.
"Actions to take include being aware of your surroundings, reviewing your personal security plans and carrying proper Identification. Have evacuation plans that do not rely on the US government," read the statement in part.
The Azimio Coalition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga plans to hold vigils in honour of those who lost their lives during previous anti-government protests. While the opposition initially planned to hold more demonstrations, they ultimately cancelled the plans and encouraged their supporters to hold vigils instead. The vigils will be held at various locations such as bus stops, social halls, county assemblies, and county headquarters.
The National Police Service under Inspector General Japhet Koome is yet to announce its stance on the vigils.
The Opposition coalition claims that 50 people were killed by police during the three-day protests. Odinga has accused law enforcement of killing protesters with impunity and has called for the ICC to intervene.

Which god and whose god? Sample some of these biblical teachings and tell me why I should listen to such a cruel, capricious and bloodthirsty tyrant- he proclaims he is vengeful and jealous, commits genocide and curses the innocent for their father's sins.
