Two Kenyan entrepreneurs are making significant strides in the heart of the US manufacturing sector

Missouri-based James Muchichu and Patrick Wambugu have established their own company, Mid Missouri Tool and Plastics, which specializes in producing molds and components for automotive giants like Mercedes, Toyota, Ford, Nissan and Honda. What's particularly impressive is their journey from being employees to becoming employers, now overseeing a workforce of 26 local and foreign individuals. Armed with a background in agricultural engineering, Muchu ventured to the US for further studies in industrial technology, eventually finding his footing in the manufacturing domain. Wugu, on the other hand, initially grappled with financial strains but persisted in his entrepreneurial ambitions, eventually joining forces with Muchu to realize their shared vision.

As a Tier Two supplier, they play a crucial role in the automotive supply chain, manufacturing molds and components essential for the production of Class C parts. These parts, often unseen but vital for vehicle comfort and performance, include baffles and acoustic components that minimize noise and filter dust, enhancing the overall driving experience. The production process at Mid Missouri Tool and Plastics is meticulously organized, starting with the receipt of raw materials which undergo a rigorous quality control process. Once received, the materials are processed using advanced machinery, such as injection molding equipment, to produce the final components.

The company's commitment to quality is evident throughout the production cycle, with stringent measures in place to ensure that each part meets the highest standards before being shipped to Tier One suppliers and eventually incorporated into vehicles by OEMs. This dedication to excellence has earned Mid Missouri Tool and Plastics ISO 9001 certification, underscoring its reputation as a trusted partner in the automotive industry. They have built a competent team and invested in infrastructure including a semi-truck for material transportation to streamline their operations.
