Trio Charged for Brutal Pepper Assault on Eldoret Woman's Private Parts

Three women have been charged in Eldoret following a shocking assault on a 24-year-old woman whom they accused of engaging in affairs with their husbands.

The suspects, Monicah Jeptum, Joyce Jerobon, and Caroline Jerotich, are alleged to have committed a grievous sexual assault on the victim, which included forcing pepper into her private parts as retribution for perceived relationship transgressions. The incident unfolded on October 1, 2024, in Kapseret market, Uasin Gishu County, when the suspects allegedly intercepted the victim en route to the local market. According to reports, they persuaded her to accompany them to one of their residences, where the assault took place.

The victim was forcibly stripped and subjected to severe physical abuse, her cries for help eventually drawing concerned citizens who discovered her being tortured. Following their apprehension, the three women appeared before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Mogire Onkoba, facing charges of sexual assault under the Sexual Offenses Act of 2007, with additional charges of physical assault. Despite denying all allegations, each suspect was granted bail of Sh100,000, with proceedings set to resume on November 4, 2024.

The unnamed victim sustained significant physical trauma, including visible scarring from her attempts to escape her assailants. Medical professionals have provided treatment for her injuries and implemented psychological support to address the trauma. Police have taken statements from the victim and several witnesses who will testify during the hearing.

In other news, Kanu National Chairman Gideon Moi has voiced concerns over the rising wave of femicide cases across the country. Moi calls for urgent government action to safeguard Kenyans' security. His appeal comes amid growing public anxiety over recent brutal killings, particularly in Eastleigh where three women were murdered. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accompanied by Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, has also taken action by meeting with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to demand enhanced security measures.
