NASA Demands Fresh Presidential Election in 90 Days

John Wanjohi Nov 08, 2017

National Super Alliance (NASA) is now demanding a fresh presidential election be conducted in 90 days under a new electoral commission.

In a motion sent to Nasa-leaning county assemblies for adoption, the Raila Odinga-led coalition want the regional houses to denounce Uhuru Kenyatta's Presidency.

“A truly independent electoral and boundaries commission be established with a view to holding a fresh presidential election on or before February 9, 2018,” part of the motion sent to the county assemblies on Tuesday reads.

Speaking during a press briefing at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi on Tuesday, Nasa principal Moses Wetang’ula said the county assemblies will debate and adopt the motion, before a national convention is held in Nairobi to adopt the changes.

“Therefore, the County Assemblies of the Republic of Kenya in areas where NASA has control shall be presented with a motion through which the people of Kenya shall exercise their sovereignty until when proper elections are held in Kenya,” Wetang'ula said.

“The people’s assembly will be in each and every county. You will be surprised to know that in counties in central Kenya, young men are already organising themselves to form these assemblies,” Wetang’ula said.

Wetang'ula further insisted that Nasa would not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as president unless a fresh presidential election is held.

“We equally do not recognize the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the president-elect as a constitutional pronouncement capable of constituting him as a legitimately elected president,” he said.
