John Wanjohi Nov 24, 2017

United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has given indications that he could be on his way out after representing his country in Kenya for the last five years.

Speaking while celebrating Thanksgiving Day, Godec said he was delighted for the “opportunity to have served as US Ambassador in Kenya”, a statement that could be suggest his tenure is on the homestretch. Godec had earlier dismissed claims of leaving the country.

“I am grateful for the many wonderful people and things and my life – especially my own family, starting with my extraordinary wife Lori. I am thankful, too, for the opportunity to have served as US Ambassador here for the past five years and all the wonderful people of Kenya I’ve met during my stay,” said Godec, in a Thanksgiving Day message.

He added: “I am also grateful for the ongoing partnership of over 50 years between Kenya and United States.”

His sentiments further fuels speculation of his exit from the position he has held for the last five years.

Godec has in recent times found himself on the spot from politicians from the opposition National Super Alliance, who accused him of taking political sides by supporting the Jubilee administration.

Godec was appointed US ambassdor to Kenya in 2012 after the exit of Scott Gration.
