ODM Pushes for Removal of Moses Wetang'ula as Senate Minority Leader

John Wanjohi Mar 15, 2018

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has launched a bid to remove Ford Kenya chief Moses Wetang'ula as the Minority Leader in the Senate and replace him with Siaya Senator James Orengo.

ODM, which is headed by Raila Odinga, has written to Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka seeking to eject Wetang'ula from the position on grounds that ODM is the minority party by virtue of having the second highest number of members in the House after Jubilee. They argue that Ford Kenya should not therefore produce a Minority Leader.

ODM has 20 Senators while Ford Kenya has one.

Speaker Ken Lusaka has suspended the decision until Nasa coalition appoints Wetang'ula's replacement in the prescribed manner.

Speaking after the Speaker’s ruling, the Bungoma senator accused ODM of witch hunt and vowed to oppose attempts to oust him. “All the appointments in this House came from the PG of NASA and not from ODM. NASA is a coalition,” said Wetangula. “In terms of the Senate, there is no party called ODM, If anyone wants a divorce, it will be noisy, it will be messy.”
