Raila Disowns Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Sharon Otieno's Murder Case
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has refused to defend Migori Governor Okoth Obado over Rongo University student Sharon Otieno's murder case.
Speaking on Thursday, Odinga said he had received numerous calls to stand with the embattled Migori Governor but noted that Obado should prove he's innocent.
"So far all indicators are pointing at Obado, let him prove his innocence in court," Raila said.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader termed the brutal murder of Sharon, who was seven months pregnant, as an act of witchcraft. Odinga said in Luo culture, such an act would bring a bad omen.
"It was unfortunate that a very young woman and her angel were murdered brutally. If the killers didn't need the child or the mother they should have spared their lives," Raila said.
Odinga spoke in Rongo Town on Thursday when he drummed support for ODM candidate in the Migori Senate by-election, Ochillo Ayacko.
Obado was last week charged with the murder of the 26-year-old student and is currently admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital after he fell ill while at the Industrial Area Remand Prison. The ODM Governor will remain in custody until October 8th when his application for bail will be reviewed.
