Martin Olage Jun 19, 2023

The President has said that one million Kenyans should seek employment abroad to expand the economy.

Speaking in Kakamega during a Church service on Sunday, the Head of State pointed out that the influx of dollars would be greater if the younger generation works outside the country. Mr Ruto declared that Germany, the US, and Canada have called for more Kenyans to work in their respective nations. According to Ruto, job opportunities abroad would help stabilize the economy and alter the fortune of the youth in the country.

He added that his administration is keen on growing digital employment opportunities due to its availability. Ruto has been vocal in lauding the Finance Bill 2023, asserting that the implementation of affordable housing initiatives would grant the youth more employment opportunities.

"In our manifesto, we have 100,000 kilometres of fibre optics because we want to grow digital jobs. We will install 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots around the country to enable our young people to access jobs digital and venture into e-commerce. We have planned to build 10,000 houses in Kakamega, The program will create employment. We expect to create over one million jobs across the country. Kazi ni Kazi," he said.

With regard to tax collection, the President declared that he will emulate the example set by former President Mwai Kibaki. Ruto affirmed that his government is making progress in introducing new taxes and will persist in the mission, as it will lead to more revenue. He emphasized that he will not resort to borrowing, but instead focus on collecting taxes.
