President Uhuru Leads Kenyans in Mourning Legendary Events Organizer Big Kev

President Uhuru Kenyatta has led the nation in mourning legendary events organizer Kevin Ombajo, popularly known as Big Kev, who passed on Saturday after long battle with cancer.

In a message on his Twitter account, the head of state mourned Kev following his sudden demise.

“Saddened by @BigKevKenya's passing on. Against all odds you prevailed again and again. You inspired a generation .RIP,” President Uhuru posted.

Kev’s death is a great loss to the entertainment fraternity. He was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Trublaq entertainment that is credited in helping several upcoming musicians in the country.

Kev was a friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta, who visited him when he was admitted at the Nairobi hospital for surgery last year.

He revealed he had brain tumor for 10 years in an interview in 2010, but ignored the warning signs of headaches and paralysis until it got out of hand. Ten subsequent brain surgeries were carried on him, including a life-saving operation on his head in India, after the previous ones failed.

In October last year, Kev was diagnosed with optic atrophy, a condition that leaves one blind after the optic nerves dry up.

‘’It’s dark, very dark. Not all of us can relate but it is like being in a small room with no windows and no doors. I can’t remember the last time I saw my face in a mirror, and I meet people every day who I hope I get to see soon,’’ part of a message that was posted on his social media last year December read.

In February this year, celebrities’ fields came together in his honor for a black-tie dinner held at Carnivore in Nairobi, with ickets going for Sh10,000 per person, Sh7.2 million being raised towards his medical bills.
