President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned the death of 20 people who succumbed after a Busia bound bus was involved in an accident that occurred along Nairobi-Nakuru highway at Soysambu area on Saturday morning.
The head of state, who flew out of the country on official duties sent his condolences to friend and relatives of the victims through his Facebook page, while wishing recovery to those injured.
"I'm deeply saddened to learn of the deaths of more than 19 people in a bus accident at Soysambu area on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway. My condolences to the families, relatives and friends of those who have lost dear and loved ones", Uhuru wrote on his Facebook page.
He added: "Hospitals in the region are treating those that were injured and medical teams are on standby to evacuate any cases that may need specialized care that is not available in the area. Emergency and support services have also been dispatched to the accident area to help alleviate the situation".
Uhuru further called on relevant agencies to launch investigations into the incident to ascertain what went wrong.
"I have also instructed the relevant authorities to quickly establish the root cause of the accident and to implement more measures that will ensure roads are safer at all times" he added.
