Authorities Launch Investigations on Raila Odinga

National Super Alliance (NASA) Chief Raila Odinga could find himself in trouble over the remarks he made in Kajiado on Thursday.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has launched investigations into the statements and is reviewing recordings of remarks to ascertain whether they amount to hate speech as Jubilee party leaders alleged.

The former Prime Minister's sentiments have elicited heightened political debate, with Jubilee leaders led by President Uhuru Kenyatta leading the line in castigating Raila over the sentiments, while then NASA brigade has come to the defense of their leader.

"...until now there is no land because of poverty...we want to change that so that people don't sell their parcels.. Keep your land with you so that you don't cry foul later on...let the buyers remain at their places of origin," Raila said.

According to Jubilee, Raila’s remarks amounted to incitement and are likely to trigger ethnic tension ahead of the August 8 polls, calling on relevant authority to probe and take appropriate action against the opposition chief.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) are backing up detectives from the NCIC in un-coding Raila's to scrutinize whether it constituted to hate.

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leaders however have defended their boss against claims of incitement, saying his statement was misinterpreted.
