Nairobi MCAs Reject Nomination of Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor

A section of Members of the Nairobi County Assembly have vowed to reject the nomination of Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor.

The MCAs, drawn from Jubilee party, noted that the self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general is not a member of he ruling party, and is therefore, not eligible to fill the position.

The Ward Representatives further cited the row Miguna has with the State regarding his citizenship status.

Led by Majority Leader Abdi Guyo, the MCAs said that the nominee must first receive an approval from President Kenyatta's party for him to be the Deputy Governor.

“I can assure you the nominee’s name wouldn’t see the light of the day and you can take that to the bank, we cannot have a deputy governor who doesn’t belong to Jubilee party,” said Guyo.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Thursday, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Elachi also cast doubts on Miguna's nomination, citing his citizenship trouble.

“The governor has given us a nominee. We will follow the law. The Constitution is clear that a deputy governor needs to be a Kenyan citizen. I would tell Miguna to first clear his issues with the Kenyan government. He is Canadian. That procedure can take us three to four months,” said Speaker Elachi on Hot 96 FM.

The seat fell vacant after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January 2018. Miguna has since trashed the nomination as a “malicious distraction.”

“Good afternoon? I have no idea what nearly everyone seems to be talking about. It’s a malicious distraction. That’s all I am saying!” Miguna said.

"Mr. @MikeSonko and I have not spoken, met or communicated since our gubernatorial debate in July 2017. I will not comment on malicious information, material or cheap propaganda circulating in the social media. Thank you," Miguna added in a tweet.

Speaking to Citizen TV via phone on Thursday, Sonko said he picked Miguna to help fight cartels at City Hall, among other duties.

Sonko is really done with Jubilee to a point of nominating Miguna. (Equivalent of giving Jubilee the middle finger).Best thing Uhuru can do is to support Sonko in getting Miguna to be DG OR jubilee stands to be a weak party come next election. Sonko comes with voters most of those MCAs yapping with their dry mouths could never dream of. Call him semi illiterate, like him or hate him, the guy is very street smart, has clout and won't go down without a fight!
