President Kenyatta Launches Construction of Sh2.7 Billion Roads in Nairobi's Eastlands Area

President Kenyatta has launched the reconstruction of several roads in 11 constituencies in Nairobi’s Eastlands at a cost of Sh2.7 billion.
The reconstruction of the roads is part of the Nairobi Regeneration Program and will see more than 80 kilometres of roads in city’s populous Eastlands estates repaired.
Some of the roads to be repaired in the program include Komarock Road, Harambee Estate Sacco roads, Eastern Bypass — Kayole Spin Road, Donholm Phase V and VIII roads, Eldoret Road and Nyasa Road.
“We have decided to start this program here before it even goes to other parts of Nairobi occupied by the affluent,” said the President during the launch.
Sh1.8 billion of the total cost of the road’s project will come from the National Government, while Nairobi County will contribute Sh900 million. The President ordered contractors awarded the tenders for the roads to ensure they are completed by December.
He also took the opportunity to warn corrupt government officials, stating that those caught will not be spared.
“We are tired of the few people who steal resources meant for all Kenyans. When we get you stealing you will have to carry your own cross and you will not be allowed to use your tribe to defend yourself,” said the President.
He was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.
